A Microfiche Machine That Creates Digital Files
A microfiche machine can be described as a tool to view information from microfiche cards. One type of microfiche machine works by means of projection. In fact a microfiche viewer does exactly that. You place one microfiche cards under a glass, and a light bulb helps project the information to a screen in from of the microfiche machine. This magnified projection is large enough for you to be able to read the information.
Another type of microfiche machine called a microfiche scanner, will also work towards making the information readable, but instead of a projection process, this microfiche machine works by scanning the microfiche card and creating a digital image of each document in the microfiche card.
There are many advantages for using this scanning microfiche machine. For example, if you have the images digitized with the scanning microfiche machine and store the images on your computer, then you can view the information as many times as you want without having to touch the microfiche cards again. Images created with this microfiche machine can be sent a picture files, over the internet and can also be shared over a network.
Many organizations that store their data in microfiche cards, are required to use viewing microfiche machines and spend lots of time and effort maintaining and protecting the microfiche inventory, as well as trying to keep them from getting scratched or lost. A microfiche machine that digitizes the microfiche cards work wonders in solving all of these problem.Copyright G.I. Partners, LLC

So you are looking for a microfiche machine. If so, you probably have some microfiche cards and you need to view the contents in it. Some people when looking for a microfiche machine, find a microfiche viewer. These microfiche machines are different from a microfiche scanner. A microfiche viewer projects an image for viewing, while a microfiche scanner creates a digital file to view in a computer.
These two distinctly different microfiche machines are widely used for the same reason. However, the scanner is the modern microfiche machine that is recommended because it offers the user a great deal of functionality. The images that a microfiche machine creates as pdf or jpegs, can be stored in your computer just as a digital picture. Microfiche machines of these type are very expensive and are usually bout by large a microfiche scanning company. You can contact us if you have a handful of microfiche cards or many thousands of microfiche and you want our microfiche machine to convert your images to digital. Info About Computer Output Microfilm and COM microfiche
Computer Output Microfilm is the process for transferring data from electronic media stored on computers to 16mm microfilm or microfiche.
What is the machine which creates this? Using lasers and a processor, the data from the PC is copied to microfilm or microfiche. The fiche or film is then developed after it is exposed to light.
Computer Output Microfilm is used a solution for large organizations that want to see a reduction of paper.
It also provides away to preserve records for archival purposes.
Computer Output Microfilm and COM fiche can be converted to digital image via microfiche scanning, a service that Generation Imaging offers.
Digital images save even more space and takes COM systems to the next level, sort to speak.
Converting Computer Output Microfilm to digital image is useful for organizations who need:
- computer printouts
- reports, such as tax assessment documents, which have many pages
- a large distribution of images is required
- Images must be transferred or copied
By the way, I know how awkward it sounds to say Computer Output Microfilm and calling it COM fiche (which is similar to saying ATM machine). The correct terms should be Computer Output Microform, but hardly anyone in the industry uses microform (which can be microfiche, microfilm, or aperture cards). It could be why so many people get all three confused.
Anyway, please contact Generation Imaging for a COM microfiche scanning solution. G.I. scans all sorts of analog media, so don’t hesitate to ask us if we can help you in any way.Copyright G.I. Partners, LLC

Microfiche Scanning Information You May Not Have Known
- Microfiche scanning is a large niche industry that converts microfiche to digital image, such as PDF, JPEG, or TIFF formats.
- There are different types of fiche (COM, jacketed, step-and-repeat, 35mm, 16mm, continuous, rewritable, etc.) and each type requires a different microfiche scanning method.
- Microfiche scanning via high quality/high production machines has been going on since around 1990.
- Using a flatbed scanner, photo cameras, or cheap scanners will not create a faithful image because they do not have the optics to blow the small frame back up to normal size.
- The quality of the images generated from microfiche scanning depends on the original document, if the fiche has been duplicated, and the contrast of the image.
- Many organizations, governments ,and individuals still have microfiche to be converted in 2011, but they either did not allocate funds or are unaware of how convenient digitizing is.
- Going from analogue to digital allows instantaneous retrieval of your documents on your computer- no hunting for individual cards, batches, or using a reader printer or old technology.
- Regarding the placement of frames on the fiche, most COM fiche read vertically, while jacketed fiche read horizontally. Inexperienced scanner operators will name the images out of order by not knowing the differences between these types of fiche.
- Microfiche scanning prices are based on volume (number of cards in the collection and number of frames on a card) and fiche type.
- Generation Imaging, located in Davie, Florida, has excellent prices, quality, and turnaround time.

Government Agencies Digitize Negatives
According to a news release, the department of interior is looking to Digitize Negatives from microfiche. The article states that the department wants to digitize negatives using an automated method that combines multiple processes including deskew, inverting and quality adjustments. To digitize negatives from microfilm rolls or microfiche cards, they are looking to rent a microfilm scanner and develop a training system during the ramp up time.
This seems like a good approach and a safe solution to digitize negatives with important data. However, another solution to digitize negatives safely is to find a vendor that has a proven records of successfully achieving excellent results for many years. We have digitize negatives for many different firms across the nation and our success rate is unparalleled. When we digitize negatives, we use the best scanning equipment and apply over 20 years of experience.
Our goal is to digitize negatives and to process the images so that the end result meets or exceeds expectations. Many of our customers digitize negatives with other vendors and often find that they do not get the quality they need. When we digitize negatives for them, they compare the two and become excited with the results. It is very satisfying when a customer replies just to let you know how greatfull they are when we digitize negatives for them.Copyright G.I. Partners, LLC

Best Price Facts for Microfiche to Digital Conversion
I often get requests for converting microfiche to digital images. In many case however, the person requesting the information is unaware of the different type of microfiche. Consequently, they often do not know the information they need to know to get the correct quote for their microfiche to digital conversion. This article attempt to explains some of the characteristics of the different formats available, that are important for starting a microfilm to digital conversion.
Generally speaking, there are three main formats of microfiche. COM microfiche, Jacket microfiche, and Step and Repeat microfiche. When preparing to acquire information for a microfilm to digital conversion or to create a microfiche to digital RFQ, understanding the difference between these formats is very important. COM stand for Computer Output to Microfiche. These are microfiche cards generated by a computer and usually contains data. These microfiche may contain over 400 images but usually contain around 200 or 300 images per card. Step and Repeat are also computer generated, but the information may contain documents as opposed to plain data. Jacket microfiche are created from strips of 16 or 35 mm roll microfilm that is cut and inserted into specially designed cards. These usually contain document type data. When requesting information for your microfiche to digital conversion, you will be asked what type you have.
Another factor important for a good microfiche to digital quote is the total number of microfiche cards and estimated number of images per card. Microfiche to digital projects may be priced based on two factors. Total cards and total images. These makes a big difference because the time it takes for conversion is partially dependent on both factors. For example, 1000 cards with 5 images per car is very different from 1000 cards with 270 images per card. So understanding the contents of your project will help identify important facts for your microfilm to digital conversion.Copyright G.I. Partners, LLC
