Document Scanning is the criteria that being measured and can easily be quantified because Physical storage cabinets and the floor space is required in the office for paper documents. One can also determine the cost of this space as part of office space or other building overhead, and we must also include the additional space that is required to store copies of these documents in a remote location. These remote locations also needed to be remote enough so that they won’t be impacted by the same natural disaster that affected the primary site.

I think it's great that modern technology is affording us a more comprehensive view of the past. Transferring these film reels and documents into digital copies through document scanning is a step in the right direction.

What is Microfilm Scanning?

Microfilm scanning has become more popular over the past few years due to the advances in computer technology. In the 1980's Microfilm was considered one of the top forms for storing your documents on. Back then you had the 5.5 inch floppy disk that held around 1MB of data and there was no real software to control the images on the computer. Microfilm offered the company a space saving device at affordable prices. You could put 2500 A4 documents on one roll of microfilm that is equivalent to 3 lever arch folders. One cabinet can hold around 880 rolls of microfilm, that is 2.2 million documents and that is the same as 2641 lever arch folders. The main companies that used microfilm were companies that needed to keep their documents for more than 7 years.
